Smyslov-Larsen Attack

Post by John Upham » Tue Nov 09, 2010 1:47 pm

I'm looking for references on the so-called Smyslov-Larsen Attack which, I believe is :

1. Nf3 something 2. b3 i.e. A Nimzo-Larsen Attack prefaced by 1. Nf3

Maybe this line has not had any coverage previously?

Off the top of my head, I thought it was Nf3 followed by b4, not b3. I used to call it the Yeti - a cross between a Réti and an Orangutan.

Try Smyslov-Uhlmann. This is not a Yeti. Marovic/Parma have a good coverage. Larsen played b4 in Bird's.

The trick, as Daryl Taylor once showed me, is to play b4 after black has committed to ... g6, not before. A favourite with Anne Sunnucks, me thinks.
