It is clearly the intention of the Laws that white has the move in the initial position, even if the Laws have been drafted in such a way as to avoid saying so explicitly, and therefore I invoke the Preface.

The Preface should always be invoked in any discussion of the Laws. All primary school children should be made to learn it off by heart along with the Apostolic Creed and the Cub Promise. It would save a lot of bad feeling over the board and useless debate on the forum. (Says he, having just engaged in the same).
