Free chess theory?!
Hello.
I want to work on opening theory. Is there any free materials available on the web? NIC articles are great, but not free.

What kind of 'work' is it that you want to do and what's the end product?
Are you interested in all of opening theory, specific areas or just anything that is available for free?

If there is a free magazine on the opening theory, it likely has something relevant to my repertoire

www.chesspub.com is a discussion forum like this one, but specialising in chess openings. So you can ask questions such as "What's Black's best reply to the Colle (1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. e3) ?soheil_hooshdaran wrote: What is it?
Incidently chesspublishing.com offers edited highlights of its coverage without charge.

But How to know who is who there?
A feature of this forum is that people appear with their real name.

Well, it makes a difference whether a 2200+-player answers me or a 1200-playerBarry Sandercock wrote:Soheil Hooshdaran wrote:

You should be able to establish that from the quality of the responses you get on their forum. If not, just reading through enough posts generally allows one to get an idea as to who the poster may be...some even post under their own name.soheil_hooshdaran wrote:Well, it makes a difference whether a 2200+-player answers me or a 1200-playerBarry Sandercock wrote:Soheil Hooshdaran wrote:

Most posters there appear quite strong players (they are there primarily for the discussions on theory and are usually serious Correspondence players and/or chess authors/coaches). They are also usually very approachable.
I'm most likely one of the weakest players on the site and suspect i am in a minority as i think players of my strength are more likely to be on Chess.com.
