I wonder if anyone knows of a name for the opening gambit 1. c4 c5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 e5 5. Nb5 d5, usually followed by 6. cxd5 Bc5

The sequence up to 4. Nxd4 is somewhere referred to as "English opening, symmetrical, Benoni formation" but I nowhere found any name for the 4... e5 5. Nb5 d5 gambit.

Think it's called The Kevitz Gambit.

I've seen it called the Kasparov Gambit before ... I've got some theory somewhere, will try to dig it out. I think Gawain used to punt this quite a lot when he was a Benko player ...

Kasparov has played it, but the earliest on record appears to be Bellon of Spain in 1972.

There's a vicious trap available a few moves later. It's on record as being first played by Julian Hodgson, although club mate Andy Smith claims to have played it slightly earlier in a game that didn't get preserved in the databases.

@ Colin - that was the other name I was thinking of suggesting, but was worried I was confused with his line in the Tromp ...
