A combination of square clearance (a3 for the Q check) and deflecting the c3 knight from going to a4.

There's a cute checkmate: 1.Nxb6 Kxb6 2.Qxa5+! Kxa5 3.Nc4#.

Obviously, black can play 2...Kb7 instead, but then 3.b6 is a lethal double attack.

Combinations are the next logical step in translating Seirawan's "Winning Chess" series. Openings, Strategies then Tactics to come, I fear.

It has nothing to do with Winning Chess. I am a chess player and a FIDE Instuctor
