Re: Why did he did so?
Black wanted either control of the open c-file or to attack white's weak pawn, depending on how white recaptures on d4.

Re: Why did he did so?
Isn't it just a routine idea to undermine White's pawn centre? So if d4xc5, you can point to the isolated pawn on c3 as a potential weakness. If White allows c5xd4, then on c3xd4, Black has a Queen side majority and if e3xd4 there's a backward pawn on c3.
Capablanca was very good at understanding the nuances of such positions and how to play to get the maximum value from them.

QAfter ..c5, Tartakower says Black has the "strategic initiative."

At least now Black has a crude plan involving his h-pawn.

Whether it works is guesswork, but if Black was thinking to exploit that he hadn't castled by hacking down the h file and castling long, then inciting White to play g3 should make it work a bit better.soheil_hooshdaran wrote: ↑Fri Apr 06, 2018 7:57 pmThe author says after g3 he acheieve oe important goal.

And throwing in Ne7-f5 (after h5) might be useful. White's queenside pieces and the bishop on e3 look a bit miserable. But whether Black is much better is debatable.

He initiated a minority attack, but I don't get why g3 favors Black.

Motivation? He wants to win the queen.
Motif? Removal of defender, twice over.
