Re: Mark Howitt's chess coaching
Just so people know...
There are LOTS of things I do...
I like coaching because I LIKE coaching...
I am richer than most chess pros... but I still want to get richer...
As stated I would only coach those relatively new to the game (and have done for years... more to follow on this on my website)...
Most of the time I spend on chess now will be into becoming a better player (maybe mainly online)... because I know I have a lot to improve on.

Here is a lovely comment from the aforementioned blog:
Has AL been re-incarnated as MH? Similar styles of nonsense.
All very encouraging and diplomatic.Picture of Dean Staveley during chess training. He is actually quite good... for a beginner Enjoy the Nigel Short book you 'borrowed' Dean and I hope you pay me the money you owe me back soon Mr Multi Millionaire

I predict this thread will go the same way as at least one of the Alan Llewellyn threads: /dev/null and beyond (hopefully).

Re: Yorkshire Chess
I don't wish to reopen old wounds but didn't we for once in our miserable lives finally beat Hull, and then go out in a telephone match played in the Headmaster's office against Belfast Girls' Grammar because nobody was prepared to pay for a ferry and hotel rooms?Stephen Westmoreland wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 6:15 pmI went to Batley Grammar School too. I was the School Captain and board one in 95-96 when we went out (we got hammered by Hull - please correct I may be wrong there). I got a draw.

Yes I read about the 'telephone match' in the school magazine...
I didn't know it was a girl's school BGS went out to though
I won all my games in last season on board one apart from draw to Wainwright in last game...

Good team and a shame we could not visit. We need more women's teams and players in the leagues.
I think I may have missed that match. Possibly Ill?

Carl,
Are the "Adverts" in this category required to be chess related or can they be for any activity whatsoever?
I'd like to advertise my classic car restoration activities as I'm sure that many users of this place will be fascinated.

At least some chess players do have other interests, so who knows?John Upham wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 9:34 amCarl,

Personally don't have a problem with Mark advertising himself in his own thread - the ignore option is always available
