Finally a Chess App that Can Turn you into a Grandmaster

Post by Michael Mkpadi » Tue Apr 23, 2013 2:09 pm

My web app that can diagnose chess weakness and strengths after say solving a random problems, the more solved the more indepth the report
would be nice to get some volunteers to test drive the new chess app....

I built the chess app based on LT-PGN open source code. It is called Chess Master Cube. It presents you with random practical chess positions from some famous players. Your task is to predict within a set time and number of tries. The app then gives you an elo rating based on your answers but also it breaks down your elo into up to 40 areas of chess skills in what I refer to a Chess Clinic. I'm are looking for volunteers to test out the app. The link is below. Please Note: Norton Web users my get a false positive on that link. We have informed Norton Symantec of the issue.

Any feedback on this beta version will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

The link to the app is {removed by moderator pending sorting-out of the site's security issues}.

That page gives me a load of security warnings. I didn't investigate further.

I have the same AVG scanner and also a Norton Web Safety and they always warn against specific subdomains on unknown domains like mine. You can do a web safety scan on Norton and it gives a green light to my domain but your Norton or AVG desktop scanner kicks up a fuss about my subdomain.

As you can see below my domain is safe according to Norton web safety report https://safeweb.norton.com/ , you can check it yourself. So AVG and Norton are purely scanning to see if my page is purely html and kicking up a fuss because its got PHP, Javascript, and a Java widget from http://www.ideachess.com

The point is AVG and Norton desktop scanners will only stop falsely alerting threats to my site when i get them to register it their database. I am in process of doing that with Norton but AVG are not too interested. This app is available on the Facebook page Chess Club Live at this link http://www.facebook.com/ChessClubLive/a ... 9451980850

It's true what they say that if you have a good thing you can't give it away, well my conscience is clear i developed a beautiful app for training and ive shared it and done my best to mitigate the false threats which AVG, Norton and such like throw up for harmless sites like mine and I've posted it on a respectable Facebook and Woobox domain too, the same code and all is fine. Please check it there you really must see this app is really is quite special.

I don't understand why JavaScript (unless it's unsafe) and even more PHP (runs server-side!) should trigger false alerts and if it's due to the Java widget then you probably shouldn't be using it in the first place. It's also possible your domain has been hacked...

If you want people to use your app you need to sort this out, users won't be able to get to it without disabling antivirus software and I'm sure you wouldn't advise them to do that?

Good luck with the app.

The same page is hosted on Facebook too if you would rather go there I do understand, while i try to appease AVG and Norton.

The link on Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/ChessClubLive/a ... 9451980850

But please do check it out...not only does it give you 10 Million positions to test yourself against it produces a report on your strengths and weaknesses and it does this after ever problem attempted. I'm very proud of this app and when im not on forums like this telling people about it im using it myself.

I think this is gonna make some people who use it and devote themselves to it a few minutes a day very very strong. As it tells you what to study and once youve studied you get back on it and check your progress and find out what else needs "fixing".

Here is a screenshot of how it looks on Facebook page, Chess Club Live. Enjoy

Of course you are right the Javascript and PHP are just sever-side Html protocols and as safe as houses, the Java widget i used from www.ideachess.com i have removed because they haven't updated their Java machine so that accounted for some of the threat level. My site has not been hacked and the page is safe against all threats such as massive injection attacks (a server side threat to the user from unscrupulous site owner) and cross site scripting (which is a client side threat to me the page owner from unscrupulous users).

It's easy to tell me to sort this out, like i said on another reply the problem is i have to register with AVG and Norton in order to prove my site is kosher, that takes time but i have raised a false positive case with Norton Symantec, as for AVG they are rather less formal about request to register safe sites on their database and getting them to do it is talking longer. I think you a right i have to sort this out for users to go direct to my domain, which many already do but for users like you who have web scanners which are falsely flagging harmless sites I have an alternative location while i try to register my 100% safe site with all the web saftety sites a task that is onerous and is due to the approach taken by them to block everything but globally known domains or website using pure html or blogs and let the page owners come to them.

The link is here for the Facebook App -> http://www.facebook.com/ChessClubLive/a ... 9451980850

Thanks for wishing me good luck with my app, you are the first to do so and appreciate. I wish you well with your chess but give my app a spin if you can at all muster the curiousity, you will be rewarded as I and many other have been. The insight report alone is worth years of fruitless study.

Then your web scanner is truely had you kippered. I think its shameful they generate threats on perfectly safe pages. But my conscience is clear and i will continue to train with my app as will others who have been able to access it and no doubt i will see you across the board and my task of beating you might be slightly easier if you dont get to use the app. Seriously take care man, thanks for trying 8)

any who knows about Facebook platform will know that Facebook wouldn't allow a http callback that has a threat signature that your AVG is saying there is, so even on that level it makes no sense that AVG is saying this is a threat. As Facebook has more robust checks because of threats to themselves of cross site scripting and injections attacks they scan my code hosted on Woobox, but i guess you know all of this.

Like i said when you have a good thing and you want to give it away you never can....good luck my friend, see you across the board... 8)

It's a crying shame AVG deny you all a really good App ive as many say their Web scanners were happy with my page and are using it now. That life i guess. Thanks for trying i think we stop the "Me too" posts I think the detailed posts about the issues faced by AVG and Norton users is more than clear now for anyone viewing this thread.

:D :D :D :D :D

I've been in touch as you know with Norton and AVG and have progress a re-evaluation of the incorrect threat assigned to my simple safe site and chess web app. Please view relevant screenshots. It might not mean we are out of the woods yet regarding Norton or AVG as anybody who deems the site unsafe can flag it again but i have an account on both AVG web security and Norton Web Safe (Yep I have to pay for the right to be safe by registering with them), so I'm in position to ensure my website "remains safe" by reassuring Norton and AVG with various online forms and paid subscriptions. Even though my site is free and Chess Club Live is a non profit project of mine and i give to Chess Charities I see this invest of time and money worthwhile.... for more info on Chess Club Live and our work visit us http://www.facebook.com/chessclublive

The images below, first is from AVG and the other Norton. Thanks again for your feedback its tedious process but im grateful you guys raised the flags on this so I could try to fix the incorrect evaluation of my totally safe 5 year old web site. This was a useful process because even though I planned for jumping through these hoops I didn't realise i'd meet such doubt and frankly dismissive comments from people who should have an open mind. But to all of yous who give me the benefit of the doubt Thanks 8)
