Ah, might not have picked that one as Gazza's first loss. Nepo must be a happy man!

Peter Doggers report on Day 2 which unsurprisingly concentrates on Kasparov. It seems clear from watching the live games that he's really getting back into it again. He hasn't been in any trouble out of the openings and it will be a shame if he goes straight back into retirement.

I think when you combine "Kasparov" and "He hasn't been in any trouble out of the opening" you know you are not talking anymore about a chess legend. Of course full marks to the man for coming close to competing on almost level terms with some of the world's best but it is not the same crushing player of 20 years ago. Will he go straight back into retirement? The question probably revolves around "Does he need the money?" and "Will he be content being world number 10 or thereabouts?".Chris Rice wrote:Peter Doggers report on Day 2 which unsurprisingly concentrates on Kasparov. Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Almost Kasparov's first win but after a rollercoaster game Navara found the last trick to win.

The sort of game that makes the loser want to give up chess (or at least go back into retirement!).

Ouch! Agony for Kasparov which won't be helped by the Chess24 article on Day 3 which contains a video clip of Navara's devilish trick so you can relive Kasparov's nightmare all over again.LawrenceCooper wrote:https://www.chess.com/news/view/aronian ... parov-5496

Re: Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz 2017
I've been watching the live stream and Kasparov has shown a lot of rustiness in his clock handling. He has allowed himself to drift into time pressure in most games. His only win so far was due to an astonishing blunder from Quang Liem Lee to in Rapid Round 8 (very surprising when you consider he still had 6 minutes on his clock and Kasparov was down to seconds).
It will be interesting to see how he does in the Blitz games.
