Re: 2020 Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge
Today, after a draw playing black in the first game, Nakamura threw the second game away. You could say that he cheated himself.

Bit harsh to call that throwing it away He didn't randomly hang a piece or anything. All sensible (looking) moves.

Great comeback by Nakamura in Game 3.
Re: 2020 Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge
That's a nice surprise in game 3!
Some of Nakamura's moves in game 2 did not make that much sense, to me, but maybe that's just my lack of appreciation.
If Nakamura's clock times were actually what I saw his time use did not seem to make a lot of sense either - quick out of the blocks but plodding into the hone straight looking at his watch before falling over at the finish.

An accurate prediction. Game 4 was an uneventful draw.

Dubov wins the Armageddon. He is so impressive, breathing fresh life into chess with so many incredible opening ideas and schemes.

Bizarrely I had the position after 9 Kh2 against Fiona in the 2017 4NCL. I was sufficiently provoked by h3 and Kh2 to play 9...h5 which worked well although that was perhaps more due to her having to race from the airport from a delayed flight then the objective merits of the move.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 7:04 pmDubov wins the Armageddon. Even getting h5 in one move may not enough for a win. (See Vorobiov,E 2583 v. Azarov,S 2629 Nezhmetdinov Mem. 2013, for example)

Re: 2020 Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge
(TWIC)Game two saw Nakamura get a very significant advantage out of the opening which he continued to push but starting with 25.Rd2?! (25.Rc4) Nakamura started to go wrong and after 34.Re4 he was completely lost and resigned on move 44. Nakamura looked very shocked at his loss...
Nakamura tried to retrieve his hasty inaccuracy 25.Rd2?! by moving the rook again with 26.Rd5, which took him over 5 mins. A sure sign he was losing the plot. He won $25,000, for 2nd place, as consolation.
