This should be a good test of if arbiters will double forfeit a pre-arranged draw: https://www.chess.com/events/2023-fide- ... chtchi_Ian
Apparently they have: https://twitter.com/TarjeiJS/status/1740794475775955133
"NRK [Norwegian broadcaster] reports that FIDE has decided to punish the players and set the result to 0-0... The players have appealed the decision."

Is there normally this level of controversy at these events? Shoes, pre arranged draws and private rooms included.

I see we had Carlsen respond to 1.e4 with 1. ... a6 again. He does take liberties that guy.

He gets away with them often enough, the odd occasion when he doesn't helps keep his feet on the ground.

To what is that referring?

Possibly the participation of Timur Gareyev.

After round 15 of 21, we have:

11.5 - Artemiev
11 - Nepo, Carlsen, MVL
10.5 - Dubov, Indjic, Aronian (who has won 6 in a row)

After round 12 of 17 in the Women's, Gunina has 10.5, Kosteniuk 9.5, Garifullina 9

After round 16, Artemiev and Carlsen are in clear first and second respectively. Five rounds to go, and I think Artemiev is capable of finishing with 5/5 to take the title (4.5/5 will probably do as well).

Gunina won in round 13, so looks favourite to win as she has a 1.5 point lead with 4 rounds to go.

EDIT: Artemiev still has to play Duda and Caruana. I would expect him to beat Caruana but Duda may be able to beat him (and indeed, the pairing for round 17 is Duda-Artemiev; alongside Carlsen-Yu). Will be interesting to see where Nepo and Dubov finish, given the 0-0 earlier.

Yu Yangi has always been good, but seems to be getting some really good results recently, and at the relatively old age of 29, which is good to see. Of course, Carlsen is 33 now! And Duda is 25. Artemiev is 25. The teenagers seem to have bombed out at the Blitz (Arjun Erigaisi is now 20)? Maybe it has all been too tiring?

Mamedyarov, if he can beat Nepo, is one of the group on 10/16 that have yet to play either Carlsen or Artemiev.

It is difficult to keep track these days! :D Yes, Murzin doing well.

I forgot how quickly these rounds go. I got distracted by one board (apparently Caruana lost on time) and by the time I looked back, all the other games had finished.
