International Round-up 7/6/11

French League 26th May - 6 June 2011

Simon Williams played for Rueil Malmaison and started off with a twenty move win with black against Radoslaw Wojtaszek rated 2721 followed by a round three demolition with white of Pavel Eljanov rated 2712 who was as high as 2761 only last September. He finished with 6/11 against an average of 2620 whilst Simon’s girlfriend, Aly Wilson, also played for the same team and was in contention for a WIM norm before finishing on 5/11 against an average of 2170.

Michael Adams played for Evry Grand Roque and scored 3/5 against an average of 2589 after playing in rounds 6-10.

Meri Grigoryan scored 5/7 in the one day rapidplay and won the best female prize. She won five games and lost only twice against two of the joint winners.

Sean Hewitt’s latest congress has a FIDE rated open and major as well as an unrated minor section. The open includes GMs Simon Williams, Peter Wells and Keith Arkell.

2nd Big Slick International 25th June - 3rd July 2011

The event is being held at the Big Slick Poker Club in Purley, Croydon and there are three 10 player 9 round all-play-alls being organised with one offering GM norms, a second offering IM norms and a third rated event. The English Deaf Chess Association are organising the following chess tournaments;

20th ICSC European Club Team Deaf Chess Championship

1st ICSC Open Deaf Club Team Chess Tournament

[ICSC = International Committee of Silent Chess]

Venue: Merseyside Society for Deaf People, Liverpool L13 0DJ
Date: 8-13 June 2011

Some of the best deaf chess players in the world will be taking part in this team competition amongst around 100 players. They include 2 Grandmasters, 2 International Masters and 1 FIDE Master;

GM Yehuda Gruenfeld (Bat Yam, Israel)
GM Zlatko Klaric (Zagreb, Croatia)
IM Milan Orsag (Prague, Czech Rep)
IM Segey Salov (Hamburg, Germany)
FM Bogdan Bozinovic (Zagreb, Croatia)

There will be 7 rounds of chess from 9-12 June 2011. It will be the first ever major European deaf sporting event held in Liverpool.

Arbiters: Peter Purland (International Arbiter); Ian Campbell (ECF Arbiter)

Spectators are welcome.

And am now safely on the train to Liverpool, and posting from the train just because I can (though I'm sure people have posted from more exotic locations)! A question about Liverpool has occurred to me, but I'll post that in another thread.
