18th EUROPEAN TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS
GENERAL REGULATIONS
2 - 12 November 2011
Porto Carras, Halkidiki - GREECE
1. Invitation / Dates
The European Chess Union (ECU), the Greek Chess Federation, SO Athens Chess Club and the Porto Carras
Grand Resort have the honour to invite all National Chess Federations affiliated to ECU to participate in the
2011 European Team Chess Championships, which will be held in the 5-star resort of Porto Carras in Halkidiki,
located 110 km south of Thessaloniki airport, from 2 November (arrival) to 12 November (departure).
2. Participation
2.1. Each federation has the right to be represented by one team of four (4) players and one (1) reserve in the
open competition and by one team of four (4) female players and one (1) reserve in the women’s
competition.
2.2. In order to ensure proper tournament standards and possible visa invitations, all European federations
must submit their registrations and hotel bookings to the Organising Committee by 16 September 2011
(registration deadline). Changes in the names of a team’s list can be made by 3 October 2011, one month
before the 1st round.
3. ECU entry fees
3.1. In accordance with ECU regulations an entry fee of 260 EUR is required for each national team in the open
section and another 260 EUR for each women’s national team.
3.2. The ECU entry fees shall be paid by the federations to ECU before or at the start of the competition. If an
entry fee is not paid until the end of the 2nd round, these team(s) will not be paired in subsequent rounds.
4. Registration and Travel conditions
4.1. Entry forms must be filled from the National Federations and returned to the Organising Committee not
later than 16 September 2011. This date is the registration deadline. After this date, the Organising
Committee reserves the right to refuse late registrations if it was agreed with the ECU. All registrations and
bookings should be made through the form provided by the Organising Committee. Any correction on the
basic list of players can be made until the Captain’s Meeting.
4.2. The complete registration form must include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating
and title, and passport number of each player and each accompanying person. It must also include the
name and telephone/e-mail/fax number of the Chief of Delegation, the person in charge of the Federation
and the Team Captains.
4.3. All travel and accommodation expenses of the teams must be paid by their National Federation.
5. Hotel - Playing Hall
5.1. Accommodation and full board will be provided by the Organising Committee in the official hotel of the
event, the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort, which will also be the tournament venue. The games will take
place in the Olympic Hall Congress Center (1500 sq. m.) within the Porto Carras resort.
5.2. Hotel payments for all players and accompanying persons must be made 50% by the registration deadline
of 16 September and the rest 50% before the event starts, to the bank account of the Organising Committee.
5.3. For security and organisational reasons, all delegations are advised to make their registration and bookings
through the Organising Committee. Delegations who choose otherwise will do on their own risk and will
be charged with 150 euros for each player.
5.4. Lodging for all players and accompanying persons will be offered in the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort
and will cost per person per day:
a. in double room: 66 euros, full board included,
b. in single room: 89 euros, full board included.
5.5. At the moment of registration (until 16 September), every team shall pay to the Organising Committee the
registration cost of 70 euros for each participant / coach / accompanying person which includes free
transfer from and to the Thessaloniki airport at arrival and departure dates. This payment should be made
to the following bank account of the event agency:

7. System of play
7.1. The European Team Championship shall be held on the Swiss system in 9 rounds, with one open section
and one section for the women's teams, considered as separate competitions. According to ECU and FIDE
rules, the time control will be 90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment for
every move played starting from the first move.
7.2. Any player who arrives at the chessboard after the start of the session shall lose the game.
7.3. During the game the players are not allowed to go to the analyzing room or to the press room.
7.4. Flash photography may be used only in the first ten minutes of the playing session.
7.5. Only the players and arbiters shall be allowed in the actual playing area, except with the express
permission of the Chief Arbiter.
7.6. As long as the game is in progress a player may talk only to an arbiter or with his opponent as permitted by
the FIDE Laws of Chess.
8. Arbiters and Appeals Committee
The names of the Chief Arbiter and the members of the Appeals Committee will be announced not later than
September 1st, 2011.
9. Medical care
During the tournament there will be Medical Services according to the FIDE Tournament regulations.
10. Tournament bulletin
Each federation is entitled to three (3) free bulletins per round.
