The open that Simon Williams and Adam Hunt were due to play in has been cancelled. Regrettably the organisers did not feel the need to contact the players and so they only found out five days before when they requested a list of players.

In addition to the individual websites the latest international chess news can be found at

I encourage players to send me details of events they or others are playing in abroad and I will do my best to include them in my round-up. There is a list of international tournaments at home and abroad listed here: http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2372

From what I gather it is only the open section which has been cancelled, considering this most probably would have only counted for 10% of the total field, due to it being an amatuer tornament specifically, then this was likely.

I have been checking this website over the past couple of weeks, and there hasn't ever been a list of entrant for the open listed, so this cancellation was likely, but it doesn't condone not informing the players

The organiser decided to wait until the registration deadline, which was five days before the event, see that he hadn't got many entries and then cancel the section. Adam and Simon have paid for non refundable flights and have also booked accommodation. I think we can all imagine how they must be feeling.
