Congratulations to grandmaster Keith Arkell who won the FIDE rated open with 5/5. Ameet Ghasi, Vladimir Hamitevici, Peter Wells and Michael White scored 4 to finish equal second. Anna Wang, who is thirteen this year, had a very impressive result scoring 3/5 and performing at 2192.

Matthew Peat won the FIDE rated Major (under 2050 FIDE or 175 ECF) with 4.5/5 ahead of Roger deCoverley who scored 4, Charlie Nettleton won the FIDE rated Intermediate (under 1850 FIDE or 150 ECF) with 4.5/5 ahead of John Kelly and David Walshaw and Stephen Crockett won the Minor with 4.5/5 ahead of Derek Brent and Peter Finn who finished on 4.

Michael Adams scored 2/2 on board three (below Anand and Svidler) including the only decisive result as his team, Baden Baden, beat Werder Bremen, their main rivals. Michael beat Laurent Fressinet, rated 2696, and then won with black against a 2563 as his team won 5.5-2.5 on Sunday to take a three point lead over Bremen into the final weekend.

Luke McShane played for Werder Bremen. He drew with white against Alexei Shirov rated 2713 before beating a 2558 with black on the Sunday as his team won 6-2 against SG Trier.

SG Trier fielded just one of their English players as Stephen Gordon scored one out of two against the same two players that Michael played, albeit with opposite colours. His team lost 4.5-3.5 to Emsdetten and then 6-2 to Bremen. They are now in mid table.

Gawain Jones had two draws as his team managed a 4.5-3.5 win on Saturday before losing 5-3 on Sunday. The team remain in serious danger of being relegated.
