I actually scored 3.5 ! The surprise outright winner of the Open was Jordan Ivanov, a mere IM, ahead of GMs like Kasparov (Sergey), Andersson and Haslinger.
Some photos here of an excellent tournament and a lovely city http://tinyurl.com/DelftPics
Well worth considering entering one of the three sections (Open, u2000 and u1700) if you fancy a chess holiday abroad but not too far away and where everyone (literally) speaks English.

Should have added that the tournament website http://www.delftseschaaksite.nl/toernoo ... le&id=2044 has loads of info, including games and great photos taken by a professional photographer supplied by the main sponsor for the entire three days of the event.

Apologies for the error, I somehow mixed up your score with Kenneth Rose. I do hope my successor checks his reports more thoroughly before publishing them

Not to worry. It's good of you to take the trouble to report on patzers abroad.

How is it possible for someone to have a TPR less than their rating, but to gain rating points, without playing anyone rated more than 400 points above or below them?

That's what happens with a nonlinear system and a strange distribution of opponents' ratings.

Oh no it isnt if you use Jeff Sonas's TPR method here - http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=1759 and any continuous expectations which increase with difference in ratings.

The effect Ian Thompson noted cannot be explained by non-linearity in this case but is caused by the approximation for a continuous expectation function in using the FIDE discrete ranges table. That is unless the method used was not the Jeff Sonas method.
