Coaching opportunity in Pretoria, South Africa

Dear chess coaches, Waterkloof Chess Centre in Pretoria, South Africa is looking for a coach. If somebody is interested, get in touch!

Conditions:
The Waterkloof Chess Centre is currently the top Chess school in SA and we are keen to make international links and especially lift the standard of chess coaching in SA. We have talented youngsters, age 13 to 18, in the school, who are keen to lift their chess, allowing them to compete internationally (if possible).

The Waterkloof High School is keen to attract an International chess GM, WGM or strong upcoming IM as a part time or medium/long term chess coach. The coaching position entails:

1. ± 6 classes per week, between 30 and 40 minutes per class, during school hours (8h00-13h50) with grade 8 & 9 learners (± 14, 15 year-olds) as well as 2 or 3 evening group classes (18h00-20h00) per week – during school terms. That is around 8-10 hours per week. The coach is also expected to prepare/accompany/support the school team to competitions from time to time.

2. The coach will be supported by myself regarding organisation and admin, but must be co-involved in school team selections and preparations.

3. Language of tutoring is English.

4. The evening group classes and afternoon private classes are for the coach’s own pocket, as well as any other weekend/holiday chess classes.

5. The school will support the coach with full pay during school holidays, including a 13th cheques as bonus, and also if he/she wants to participate in a few tournaments during school time with, full pay.

6. The school offers various benefits for free (as part of the remuneration), of which accommodation and meals and the use of the Chess Centre’s facilities as office.

7. Apart from the above, the basic salary can be negotiated around $1000 per month (for ± 8 -10 hours per week) + income of all fees for private classes and group classes in afternoons and evenings (which will be double or triple the basic salary or more) + income from tournaments and other coaching ventures.

8. The coach will be supported by our chess community to travel and see the country during weekends and holidays, which is definitely worthwhile.

9. It is important that the coach is able to work well with youngsters.

10. He/she can also choose to do it for 6 months or 12 months before deciding on a more permanent arrangement, or not.

11. The position is available immediately.
