Zug (nee Lisbon)

Post by Jonathan Bryant » Wed Apr 17, 2013 7:47 pm

starts tomorrow I gather.

Decent line-up of chessers but no Agon, Andrew Paulson or chess casting, it seems.

This bit about the 500,000 Euros deposit is quite funny! Is that normal for such deals?

Probably

Not too bothered about this event really, but would be good to see Radjabov return to form

Should be some time trouble anyway :)

Do you mean normal for FIDE deals or normal for normal deals?

This is one of the craziest games I have seen for a while! Definitely not one to show to a beginner!

I'm not entirely convinced by 8....Ne6, but it looks normal up to there.

Both it and the subsequent 9b4 pawn sacrifice is fairly well established theory IIRC.

Impressive performance from Topalov, winning the event with a round to spare. Who from this event would you think would be a good bet to make the next Candidates Tournament?

Topalov moves into the lead - of course, the most interesting question is where and when rounds 4-6 take place

Then there is the question whether there are 3 qualifying places for the Candidates from the Grand Prix

EDIT - there are 2 places and the updated table can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIDE_Grand ... _standings
