Re: Alekhine Memorial
Pity. Mickey lost in 75 moves. One of three games in the tournament that was over 70 moves. So Aronian wins on tie-break from Gelfand on 5.5/9. Anand in 3rd place on 5/9. Adams, Kramnik, Vitiugov, Vachier-Lagrave, Fressinet all on 50% with 4.5/9. Ding on 3.5/9. Svidler on 3/9.

Good result for Vlad, given that Adams has been a bit of a bogey player for him down the years.

But I wonder whether he is thinking
"Black v Adams in last round of LCC - draw
Black v Ivanchuk in last round of Candidates - loss
Black v Adams in last round of Alekhine - win
Hey, I should have transposed these to be
Black v Adams in last round of LCC - win
Black v Ivanchuk in last round of candidates - draw
Black v Adams in last round of alekhine - loss
D'oh!"

Oh, I'm sure he is
That game with Fressinet is still one to gawp at, btw. When was one of the super-elite last so demolished by a "mere mortal", with the underdog having Black to boot??

Aronian-Mcshane springs to mind from the Tal tournament last year.Matt Mackenzie wrote:Oh, I'm sure he is

Yeah, thought of that one myself. But even that wasn't *quite* as one-sided IMO!
