Blitz currently in progress, and not starting according to the script:

Round 1 Anand 0.5 Carlsen
Round 2 Carlsen 0-1 Radjabov

Five players piling up on 4.5/6 (Radjabov, Anand) and 4/6 (Carlsen, Nakamura, Svidler).

After all that, five players tied on 6/9. Carlsen lost to Karjakin in the penultimate round, then beat Svidler in the last round to catch him. Anand and Karjakin drew their respective final round games, and Nakamura won to also reach 6 points.

No, actually. Wang - Karjakin was originally reported as a draw, but in fact Karjakin won the game (giving him 6½/9).

Thanks. I should have looked at the positions more closely!

Carlsen-Anand in round 2 in progress. Presumably both players not wanting to give too much away. Will the Sicilian feature in their match? :D

A small but consistent edge for Carlsen with Anand having to nurse the backward pawn on d6. It's plausible that will be his match strategy.

Depending on who you asked and when you asked them, Black's seventh (e5) could have been considered a serious error. Anand has played it before, in the German League against Tiviakov, so there have been a few games in the last year.

And drawn. With only knight and king versus king left. It's not unknown for Carlsen and others to go down to bare kings or similar positions, but you wonder who gained a psychological edge there if any was there to be had?

How does Carlsen do it? Karjakin was on 4/4, but has blundered in his game against the Norwegian. The home fans will be happy!

Well its the first time he's "done it" in this tournament, given that he drew his first four games :D

Radjabov must really hate playing these long games against Carlsen...

Does anyone know what is going on in Karjakin-Nakamura in round 7? Currently at move 46. Does Nakamura have a fortress with rook and knight against queen? Surely White is winning that?

The online Houdini engine seems to think so. Presumably what you have to do is play a4 or c4 and promote the other pawn. In its best line, it doesn't even bother to exchange pawns, instead picking up the b5 pawn.
