No mention of Agon, who seem to be disappearing from view.

As you might remember, the fourth Grand Prix was supposed to take place in Madrid. Now that AGON seems to have stepped out, FIDE is taking care of sponsorship and they found entrepreneur Ivan Savvidi to support the event. The tournament is taking place in his 5-star Makedonia Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki, the Greek city where two consecutive Olympiads took place, in 1984 and 1988.

Dont jump too quickly to conclusions.
It does not look good at the moment for the Agon's grand plans, however the tournament site hosted on the FIDE servers still has the worldchess logo; also, is this Mr. Paulson at the opening ceremony in Thessaloniki?

No English players in this one, but the finish to Morezevich-Svidler in round 2 is a nice one. Only 22 moves in the game as well.

Wonder if Grischuk will win this one against Nakamura. Looks set to go over 100 moves.

Aww. They both chickened out with a draw in mutual time trouble.

Looks like Ivanchuk lost on time again after being +11 on move 30, but completely lost by move 37

he was +13.61 after move 25, that's a more impressive turn round than some of my games

What choice did Grischuk have?

Doh (again!). It was Kamsky forcing a repetition. Though it looked like he used his remaining time to see if there was more.

The finish was if anything even more amazing. Back in 2009 the same players had another time scramble. Ivanchuk knocked over some pieces then, and although he was winning at the time control he felt bad about the toppled pieces and offered a draw. In act of remarkable sportsmanship, Dominguez didn't take the knight but went for a perpetual check, to pay Ivanchuk back for the 2009 game, but Ivanchuk's flag fell on the last move of the time control and the arbiters declared the forfeit - even as Dominguez tried to declare the game drawn! Alas...

Ivanchuk didn't wait today for time trouble to self destruct - he does skew the tournaments he plays in by the massive difference between his good and bad days
