Siegman tournament (May 2013)
Nigel Short is playing in the 21st Sigeman and Co chess tournament in Malmo, Sweden.

Unfortunately he has just lost in round 2 to the Hungarian wonderkid Richard Rapport, still only 17 and back in 2010 the fifth youngest chess Grandmaster in history:

Looked like a nice king hunt, if a bit of a short one.

A case of trying too hard to win perhaps? On the grounds of the extra queen side pawn, Black should have been better, so on the face of it White was looking to use the active pieces to draw.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: Looked like a nice king hunt, if a bit of a short one.

<shrug> Probably. It is quite funny reading what was said on this forum about Rapport back in 2010 when he was the only GM appearing in the U14 section at some international junior event (can't remember if it was the Europeans or the Worlds).

Interesting opening from Nigel today c4 e5 e3 seems to have surprised his opponent, looking at the clock times

Wyvill played it in 1851, so not exactly a novelty. Nigel isn't really known as a player of the English, so his opponent may well have been trying to figure out what transpositions were intended.Mick Norris wrote:Interesting opening from Nigel today c4 e5 e3 seems to have surprised his opponent, looking at the clock times

Another interesting win today for Nigel, leaves him 0.5 behind Sokolov and Van Wely who he is yet to play

Never boring with Nigel, white against Van Wely and really going for it again
Move 29 and Van Wely has 77 seconds left

Unbelievably, the report on the Sokolov - Tikkanen game quotes one of my games, they really need to be careful about quoting poor quality stuff from databases

They might have added the rest of the moves, given it was my last longplay win
