I think it's a bit silly that it's all being played in one go. It probably makes it easier to get all the top players involved, thus securing a pay-day for the professionals (not in itself a bad thing) but other than that I don't see the point.
Plus I've never met anyone in my ten years playing in France who has ever talked about or expressed an interest in what happens in the top flight.
At least in Germany and in the UK the games appear in magazines and websites with analysis, giving people time to take an interest and to digest them.
