Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
The 12th Sunny Beach Open starts on 31st August. Has anyone played in any of the previous 11? What was it like? I was thinking of going and could do with some feedback. Thanks!

I can tell you I got sunburned there in 1991. Not playing chess, mind.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Ivanov played there in the 11th Kesarovski-Stanchev Memorial back in September 2012. You could ask him.

Re: Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
A (non-chess playing) Bulgarian told me Sunny Beach was quite built up and past its best. A chess playing Bulgarian recommended it to me as cheap (especially the beer!). Careful not to get too enticed by cheap beer- say you drank 3 beers a day for 9 days, even if it was free you would only save £81 on say £3 prices in the UK. If you were planning on drinking 10 a day you might make big savings but your rating is likely to go into freefall!
