From www.chessdom.com

Italian superstar Fabiano Caruana started the Dortmund Sparkassen Tournament with a victory against the Russian champion Dmitry Andreikin to reach the magical 2800-elo mark in the live rating list.

Big game for Adams this afternoon, Black against Caruana. Both on 1.5/2, Adams up to world No 17, his best for a long while, Caruana teetering on the brink of 2800.

Adams plays the Berlin! Main line queen exchange, position even after a dozen moves. Houdini commentary now live at http://www.chessbomb.com

Caruana - Adams was following Caruana - Kramnik from last month's Tal Memorial when Kramnik uncorked a fantastic series of moves in response to 14 f5N (see here). This time Caruana has played 14 Kf2 and Adams, after something like 30 minutes, has responded 14... b6.

Strange, assuming Kf2 was a homebrewed TN, that Caruana is taking his time over a reply to the obvious...b6. Clock times now almost level again.

The position after fourteen moves isn't a good advertisement for developing pieces

Adams is losing his Bf8 but apparently will have compensation with Bc6 and a rook on the 7th.

Play now sharp, Adams effectively challenging Caruana's home analysis by taking the c2 pawn and offering White a piece win by Nh7xf8. So far Houdini backs him, showing only a small edge for White though the lines look complex. 45 minutes each for 21 moves, no clock problems yet.

Looks like Caruana may have blundered with 21.f6. Amazing game for Adams if he brings this home.
