The Knight's trapped.

I'm sure Caruana will resign at move 40.

Liked Mickey's game today. I saw the Bf3 idea once the Queen got to h5 but you have to see it a while back otherwise Black's pieces are just misplaced.

Interesting that he played 5 ... c6. Given his adoption of the Berlin against Caruana, I wonder if he'd have gone for the Short ending if White had answered with 6 e3 instead of 6 Qc2.

Adams was worse today as White against Wang Hao, who had at one stage a nice risk-free edge with pressure on the Q-side. But it seems Adams can't do anything wrong at Dortmund. Wang Hao gave up the exchange but didn't follow up accurately and now Adams, with rook for bishop and pawn, is showing +0.7. 12 moves to make in less than 10 minutes each, so the crisis approaches.

Meanwhile Kramnik, who was tied with Adams on 3/4 at the start of the round, has a level position with White against Leko.

The pairings have Adams v Kramnik in the final round next Sunday, noon start.

... and Wang followed by giving away a piece, so 1-0 it is.

Wang is blunder prone, isn't he? ...Kh7 against Gelfand last year is by no means an isolated case.

Indeed. He blundered a rook to Kramnik (this time by not playing Kh7) in round 1 of this Dortmund.

Adams now up to 2754 in the already updated live ratings, still world No14 but only a touch behind Ponomariov and Dominguez who are immediately above him.

Great run of results for Adams. Kramnik has beaten Leko, so will stay tied with Adams for the lead. As Leonard said, they play in the last round (Sunday, round 9; this was round 5). I wonder what Kramnik's live rating is now? (The site seems to be down at the moment).

Live ratings back
http://www.2700chess.com/

Kramnik third at 2792.3 ahead of Caruana who is down to 2786.6

Adams is +14.3 for his 5 rounds so far at 2754.3, with his peak rating ever being, I believe, 2755

Rest day today, Mickey then has black against Naiditsch, white against Khenkin, black against Meier before finishing with white against Kramnik (who has yet to play Caruana)

Indeed. This must be his best set of results for ages.

And is it me or has he had a fiddle with his opening repertoire. Berlin as Black and then yesterday the English as White. Entirely possible i'm not up to speed, but neither of these are openings i associate with him.

I had an idea he tried some new openings out at Bunratty as it wasn't rated?
