Riga International
Whilst all eyes are on the final rounds of the British I note that in Riga, Isaac Sanders has had a very impressive start to the above open tournament with draws against Alexei Alekksandrov (2626) and Jiri Stocek (2558) in the first two rounds.

Alan Merry is STILL doing rather well...does he have a chance of an IM Norm ?

Re: Riga International
Merry lost in round 7 and with 4/7 his current TPR is only 2316, which looks out of it for a 2450 IM norm.David Grobler wrote:Alan Merry is STILL doing rather well...does he have a chance of an IM Norm ?
However Isaac Sanders, though having his first defeat in round 7, has 4/7 against stronger opposition with a current TPR of 2424, which probably means a norm if he scores 1.5 from his last two games.
Round 8 is currently in progress but the live boards don't go down as far as the English players.

Yes, I see that now. I guess Merry can therefore achieve an IM norm with a good round 9 result, either a win or a high rated draw.
Perhaps some Forumite can make the exact calculation?

Think he needs to win against a 2406. A draw won't do unless he's playing Magnus Carlsen.Leonard Barden wrote:

Don't quote me but I think that Isaac would need to beat a 2301 (once the 1822 is rounded up to 2200) whilst Alan would need to beat a 2252 (once you round up his round 3 opponent)Leonard Barden wrote:

Re: Riga International
You only round up to 2050 for an IM norm. 2200 is for a GM norm.LawrenceCooper wrote:Don't quote me but I think that Isaac would need to beat a 2301 (once the 1822 is rounded up to 2200) whilst Alan would need to beat a 2252 (once you round up his round 3 opponent)Leonard Barden wrote:

Reckon Isaac would have to beat a 2455.

GM Solozhenkin Evgeniy 2476 5 5 Merry Alan B 2283 80
IM Smirnov Artem 2439 4 4 Sanders Isaac B 2254 89
So Alan can make a norm but Isaac's opponent is 12 points too low
