Kramnik, Andreikin, Karjakin, Svidler etc - fantastically strong event

Both Svidler and Kramnik (his round 3 blip apart) in pretty scary form so far.

Nobody else following this, then? :)

Yes, not just extremely strong, but lots of positive results; 2 rounds so far have had no draws at all.

Yes, trying to answer 2 questions:
1. why does Svidler play so well in Russian Championships?
2. Is Kramnik playing well?

I'm not sure about either

1) well it's not a fitness regime:- this was from an interview with Peter Svidler about 3 years ago:

Question: "How do you maintain your fitness?"

Peter S: "For anyone who’s seen even a single photograph of me the answer to that question should be obvious. I’ve got a cardio-trainer at home, and my list of things to do in the near future includes checking whether it’s totally broken, and if it turns out that it’s still functional, then trying to break it before the Superfinal."

2) not qualified to comment, but judging by the round 1 game that you pointed out, and the slightly eccentric opening in round 6, he seems to be intent on making life interesting, anyway.

P.s. From the same old interview, this was nice :

Question: "Are you really friends with Vladimir Kramnik? Tell us a little about your relationship away from the chessboard."

Peter S: "We’ve got a good friendly relationship – previously we’d see each other more often, but even now we enjoy spending time together to discuss my latest chess mistakes."

Svidler has finished with 6.5

He wins the title if the Nepo - Kramnik game finishes as a draw, if not the winner and Svidler have a Rapid playoff

Move 47 - I think Kramnik is much better

Dunno what happened there. Looks like Kramnik dropped a rook after he had allowed a good position to drift. I still thinbk he was clearly much better at move 58!

I think he pressed too hard for the win, and being down to the 30 sec increments didn't help him

The onsite computer has him better at move 58 and going wrong at move 69 I think

Candidates 2014 will be in Russia after Bulgarian bid withdrawn according to TWIC - bad news for Caruana I guess

Svidler may have a better chance v Grishchuk for the wildcard if he wins the playoff - would be interesting if Nepo wins

Svidler won the playoff easily - maybe Nepo was still a tad embarrassed at somehow fluking that win :P
