Ukraine would probably be the toughest of that lot, but a win against any of them would be our best result yet and if we can do it, it would really put us in the frame. I believe that the rest day tomorrow is well timed from our point of view.

This pairing system is so awful.

So, who do we think will be rested? After the rest day.

I was about to start a game when you asked, so I was in no position to answer the question. A dull 22-move draw disturbed only by the back catalogue of Katy Perry coming through the floorboards from the bar downstairs and a guy playing friendlies who kept making somewhat odd noises. And the heating took about an hour to warm up. And we lost. :(

The 7-point group in seeding order is Russia, Armenia, Ukraine, England, Hungary, Romania. So England would be bottom half, and so if we had to have one of the teams in the top half to play against, we can't play Russia (we already have), a Ukrainian side devoid of Ponomariov, Ivanchuk and Eljanov is probably as good as we could hope for regardless of the pairing system.

Alex, my question was a little tongue-in-cheek as the round hadn't actually finished when I posted. But thanks for the explanation, and sorry about the loss. I'm hoping not to hear about dull 22-move draws on the other thread....
