The basic insight is sacrificing the b pawn for the attack on the open b file.
Howell looks much better as a 1.c4 player than he was as a king pawn player.

The on-line Houdini at the official site scores it as a minor error, moving the assessment from 0.0 to -0.2 . Having a square on g4 for the Knight could help in building a king side attack.

Jones has drawn. 22...Kf7 in the Howell game, looks interesting.

And now the natural 23.f4 looks good for white, according to Houdini.

I thought it looked bad for a while, though it might still only be 2-2 or a narrow loss or win.

I'm predicting an England win here with a draw on 2 and a win on 4.

Looks more like a loss on 2 and a draw on 4 (at moves 27 and 25)...

I'll take 2 to 1 for a win. Fridman's down to 2 minutes in the site is to be believed. Pure speculation on Short's game.

33 Nf6 looks excting for Nigel with just a few minutes left to get to move 40

And he's played it. Lots of chances to go wrong for Black here.

And I suddenly like David's position. Hope no-one took that bet....
