A new report at the FIDE site showing where chess is played as measured by events and players with international ratings.

With the extension of ratings down the playing ability scale, there is a corresponding increase both in head count and events, excluding all play alls, rated.
The figures for Ireland have to be wrong. As a guess Israel or possibly Iceland.
I reckon IRL has about 200 rated players as opposed to the claimed 1528 of the report.
England scores in the top 10 as regards international participation, but I expect the usual presence of SCO, WLS and IRL players boosts the numbers.

Re: FIDE Metrics
One obvious question, which the report doesn't answer, is whether the counts of tournaments and games include rapidplay and blitz, which have only been rated for about 2 years. If they are included, what would the figures be without them?
