The Association of Chess Professionals came up recently as a topic. So herewith:
Dear ACP Members,
The first quarter of 2014 is approaching its end and we have some interesting news to share with you.

We shall start however by reminding you that the ACP Board decided to extend to March 31 the deadline for renewing ACP membership without losing full membership privileges.

At present, there are roughly 120 chess professionals who have already joined and showed their concrete support to the ACP. You can read the full list here. (http://www.chessprofessionals.org/conte ... membership).

Please remember that we need your personal support to fund our initiatives and activities, which in the past 2 years have led to substantial results (increase in Continental Championship prizes, organization of world class tournaments, visa support, wildcards, amendments to FIDE regulations, protecting the player’s rights against abuse from federations and organizers, etc.). So, we would like to take this moment to ask you to read the new FEE policy here (http://www.chessprofessionals.org/conte ... ligibility) and to confirm your Standard or Premium ACP membership by next Monday. Please take your time to register at http://www.chessprofessionals.org/register. Your support is the only basis of our common success.

Now, to the other items of news:

• We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the Gibraltar chess festival. This year we had three wild cards and the ACP prize (for the top ranked ACP member who didn't win a main prize) was awarded to GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly of India. The cooperation with Gibraltar will continue next year as well.

• ACP Wildcards in top events: The ACP reached an agreement with the organizers of the Poikovsky Cup (10-21 May 2014), and along with some of the leading Grand Masters, there will be a wild-card for an ACP Premium member. The wild card has been awarded to GM Ivan Saric based on the ACP Tour standings on 15 March 2014. For the future, we are in talks with other iconic chess events to introduce a special wild-card for the best performing members of the ACP Tour. It is also useful to remind that last year, based on the rankings of the ACP Tour, GM Maxime Vachier Lagrave was awarded a wildcard to the World Cup. There is an agreement with FIDE about the wild-card for the ACP Tour- 2014 qualifier for the World Cup 2015.

• ACP Golden Classic: We are pleased to announce that the tradition started with the first ACP Golden Classic in Amsterdam in 2012 will be continued, and the second edition is expected to take place in Bergamo, Italy, from 12 to 20 July 2014. Further details about this event will be finalised soon.

• Anti-cheating efforts: the joint ACP/FIDE ACC committee is working hard, with proposals being fine-tuned for the Committee’s general meeting expected end of April in Buffalo, NY. An in-between meeting is also scheduled in Tel Aviv on Apr. 4, where substantial progress is expected.
• The Book of the Year and Tournament of the Year awards have been launched, in our continued effort to promote professional organizers and the publishing industry. Please take your time to visit our site in two weeks time to cast your vote!;

• Talks with FIDE for secure spots for ACP arbiters at the Tromso 2014 Olympiad and other official events such as the World Rapid and Blitz have been successful and there will soon be a call for arbiters for these events.

• The programme in support of chess veterans, urged by the ACP and adopted by FIDE, is supposed to be launched in the course of the year;
• Our visa support programme has been helping and continues to help many chess professionals all over the world;
