I'm glad Leonard pointed that out. I had that thought myself when playing through the game, mainly that O-O looked awful, so Ke2 might actually be the best available move. Still don't understand how they got to that position though...

Kramnik thought he'd have some fun It isn't an entirely unknown sort of thing to do.
Ke2 plain normal in context surely?

At move 7. g4, they were following a game between Craig Hanley and Brett Addison from the 2001 Whitley Young Masters. I doubt it's ever been in any works of theory, but the idea of playing Bf8-e7-f6 against a b3 English/Reti has been seen before.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: Still don't understand how they got to that position though...

The g3 knight was left en prise for a further three moves. Black eventually won. Don't understand that game either...Nick Burrows wrote:

Looks like a tough tournament - Bologan on 0.5 out of 4!

Just imagine Chris - you start with your expected 0-4 and then get an upfloat to Bologan.

Excellent commentary by Danny King and Simon Williams. Most enjoyable.

Mamedyarov - Giri (rd 5)
What a brawl! And another Giri miniature. He stands +5

I haven't really been keeping an eye on Giri but that is a bit of a spanking.David Robertson wrote:Mamedyarov - Giri (rd 5)
