Thanks for alerting us to the discrepancy, Barry. We're now busy trying to work out which one is right.

I think Bobaid might be Jorge rather than George, from Brazil?

Round 1 was a bit of a damp squib on the giant killing front and only one instance as far as I could tell over 126 boards of David beating Goliath:

Board 16: Galmandakh Badrakh (2240) 1 - 0 GM Motylev Alexander (2665)

Therefore most of the PR seems to have centred on Miss Gibraltar and the Zumba classes she teaches.

ChessDom: http://www.chessdom.com/its-the-first-m ... to-report/

The round two pairings are up and the match ups are a lot closer so there may be a few shock results today.

Let's just get to the notable shock results of Rd 2:

1 Debashis Das (2503) ½-½ Topalov Veselin (2800) - Topalov said he couldn't reven remember the last time he played an open, must be 20 years. Epic game if you want to see it check out the report below.

3 IM Wagner Dennis (2501) ½-½ Svidler Peter (2739)

15 IM Trent Lawrence (2470) ½-½ GM Howell David W L (2670)

18 Prasanna Vishnu (2463) 1-0 Emil Sutovsky (2637)

19 GM Bartel Mateusz (2631) 0-1 IM Kjartansson Gudmundur (2468) - same Icelandic guy that keeps missing GM norms by the narrowest of margins

23 GM Agdestein Simen (2626) 0-1 GM Venkatesh M.R. (2460)

37 GM Hansen Eric (2574) 0-1 IM Houska Jovanka (2388)

48 IM Bellin Robert (2338) ½-½ GM Spraggett Kevin (2538)

Hou Yifan beat her opponent and for the first time in 25 years Judit Polgar does not top the live rating list.

Wei Yi is one win away from being the youngest player in history to break the 2700 barrier

39 players on 2/2

I found Topalov's game to be very strange. It's not often you see someone with an extra queen not have the advantage. I thought he did well to draw even though he was clearly winning at several points.
