Lol, Kasparov as gracious a non-winner as ever

Cool play by Nigel to get the draw. Is it FIDE rated? Could give his rapid and blitz ratings a boost.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

It's not rated.

Looks like Kasparov hasn't lost much. Pretty convincing 3.5 - 1.5 lead.

As I said... Kasparov will win.

Anyone who watched the games last night and knows how to play chess could see that there is a massive gulf in class.

Kasparov was a little ring rusty using the clock but his class shone through....a chess genius that would easily be in the top 5 if he unretired tomorrow.

He has the will to win and the killer instinct that I have never seen in any other player.

Cheers, Martin. I beg to differ. My main problem is that I am massively jet-lagged.

Tosh rusty is rusty and 5 minutes is a lottery.

Sorry Nigel

Kasparov is in a different league... he is mashing you... 6.5..1.5 as I speak and you can see he wants to win every single game...he is a monster...enjoying the free master classes ;)

OMG

that was humiliating ...absolute crush...those last 2 blitz games were off the planet...Kasparov finding computer moves and much better than computer moves in seconds. There has never been a player as intense as Kasparov and never will be again...only one word to describe it...unbelievable.

The American comentators were colourful to say the least...hope Nigel never plays it back in replay...it would be too cruel.

One of their comments.... ...this is a blood bath....there might be children watching this.

Never change, Martin

Was there some preparation in game 8 from kasparov (...dxe5, allowing Qxd7) or is it all known? Looked mightily impressive, it must be said.

The exact sequence of moves appears to be new. But who knows the undisclosed secrets on the cumulative digital notebooks since 1986 and for that matter whether the "notes" are periodically updated "for the sake if it" or "just in case"?

That distant chuckling sound is from Tony Miles
I float like a pawn island and sting like an ignored knight

Bit embarrassing that Short's only win came when Kasparov dozed off and lost on time.

After Short pushed/queened the wrong pawn in the last game on Saturday to lose instead of draw I'll believe the "massively jet-lagged" excuse but I suspect that perfect preparation and less cheeky openings would just have narrowed the score a bit.
