Re: Nigel Short wins in Bangkok
Except it wasn't Bangkok, it was Pattaya, which is about 85 miles away from Bangkok.
The organisers seem to be unclear on what their very good tournament is called. In some places they refer to it as the "Bangkok Chess Club Open" and in others as the "Thailand Open Chess Championships". It's normally played in Bangkok in even numbered years and outside Bangkok in odd numbered years.

Good point, I noticed that last year and have passed comments on to Kai the organizers. Will post his remarks in due course. It certainly used to be the Bangkok Open before it grew, state financing became involved and locations rotated but yes there should only be one name. On the scoresheets, it says Bangkok Open, or mine do anyway.Ian Thompson wrote:Except it wasn't Bangkok, it was Pattaya, which is about 85 miles away from Bangkok.

Rationale is as follows: 'The tournament has 2 names, like it have had during most of the tournaments history. Its same time the 15th Bangkok Chess Club Open as well as Thailand Open Chess Championship 2015 The years when Thailand Chess Association is sponsoring the tournament, we need to use Thailand Open, but I do not agree to drop BCC Open.. (and TCA did not agree to you BCC Thailand Open name).
It'a a very Thai solution.
