It's the correct idea, but the sequence of moves needs a little refining. You also have to refute White's defence.Matt Mackenzie wrote:52.....Rf5+ and 53......Re5?

Be gentle with me if I've got it wrong.

Right
So what should Almira have played, rendering the win trivial?

Re: Top 12 French League
It isn't trivial but she could have forced White to sacrifice her rook for the e-pawn. That leaves a position where White has a, b and c pawns against Rook and e pawn. Engines seem confident that Black is winning, but it could have been difficult in practice, particularly if Black was short of time.David Robertson wrote:Right

Re: Top 12 French League
It's fairly straightforward, isn't it?
Skripchenko should play 52 Rh1. Thereafter she drops the K to c4, plonks her R on e1, and shoves the a-pawn. In due course, a- and e-pawns get swapped; and the remaining e-pawn is no match for the united passers.
No time scramble involved here either: both players had fifteen minutes left

Nice. Took me a bit too long to work out why 18...Bf8 doesn't work as a defence.

A surprising turnaround in the Wesley So game.

Well, that's his black repertoire sorted. Question is, will he remember what to do next time he has to play white?Mick Norris wrote:chess.com

Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.
