Actually, "last time" was 2014, wasn't it? Khanty-Mansiysk in 2014 (no Ivanchuk) and London in 2013 (where Ivanchuk played two key games beating Carlsen then Kramnik). Rather disgracefully, the FIDE website for Khanty-Mansiysk appears to have vanished:

http://candidates2014.fide.com/

The London '2012' web presence appears to be just this:

http://www.agonlimited.com/london-candidates-2012/

Though it was actually held in 2013, and is here:

http://london2013.fide.com/en/component ... view&kid=3

Bit sad that you have to reply on chess news sites to archive the results properly.

Found the 2014 event here:

and the PGNs can also be reached. I quite agree that I would prefer to have the original website back.

Marginally surprising they haven't hidden it behind their Arena registration wall.

Still it's useful to know that if you can remember what country someone played in, you can still look up their rating performance.

Presumably the Italians haven't thought of that. Let's hope they don't.

The interesting thing about the Khanty-Mansiysk Candidates in 2014 is that all 8 players scored either 3 or 2 wins from their 14 games (6 players scored three wins, 2 players scored two wins - Andreikin and Topalov). It was Anand going undefeated that got him the re-match with Carlsen.

All I know is that the only bids are from European countries.
Switzerland?

Average rating spreadsheet here

Giri's November rating will be 2778 and Kramnik's will be 2796, so Giri still has a cushion

I can't see that Vlad is due to play any more events that count, so his December rating is fixed - Anish will be playing Bilbao 26 Oct - 1 Nov and Euro teams 12 - 22 November, and should retain the spot unless he loses quite a few more points

That site is back. I am told that it had to be taken down because of a security problem, which does sadly seem to be quite common nowadays.

If Kramnik doesn't play again, then for Giri to lose 4 points off his average (so Kramnik overtakes him), then he would have to lose near 50 points in one list, which I doubt will happen

Agree with that Alan, as Bilbao won't be in the November list, Giri would have to lose the points over 2 events - there was a 39 point swing this month, but Giri only lost 20 points, Vlad gained 19

Unless Vlad is a late substitute for Russia at the Euro teams, Giri just needs to avoid a nightmare and he's there - will be good to see him in the Candidates

Edit - going into the last game at Bilbao, Giri has a 48.3 point rating cushion to play with including the Euro team champs

Moscow with Levon Aronian as wild card!

(Sponsored by a Russian company headed by an Armenian millionaire, hence the wild card.)

See also the announcement at the official website for the World Chess Championships,
http://worldchess.com/

The precise venue in Moscow is to be announced some time in the next month.
Yes the reason Aronian was chosen is in the following statement:

"Tashir Group, a large real estate developer in Russia, is one of the principal sponsors. The company is run by Samvel Karapetyan, an Armenian-born businessman whose net worth is about $4.8 billion according to Forbes magazine."

Bad news for Vlad, but Levon will make a good Candidate
