It's a question of momentum. If Howell maintains momentum he could bridge the gap quite quickly. The usual advice when you are playing well is to play a lot to take advantage of your form and try and kick on.
If Howell maintains momentum he could bridge the gap quite quickly. Or perhaps a bit more slowly - depending on his momentum at the time. Hilarious

Must be the way you tell 'em, John.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

October 2012, rating 2707, world rank 38=
As Nick Faulks points out in another thread, FIDE rating info at the FIDE website is now available to all again. The stats go back to January 2000 and I see Nigel reached 2712 in April 2004. I wonder if he had a higher rating before 2000? Anyhow, 2712 matches what I think David's August rating will be when it's published in a few days.

That was his highest ever. It won't be easy for David to go through a long mixed ability event like this without losing the odd point.

Sorry to see that after his two losses in the first two rounds of the ECC, David Howell has not only dropped below 2700 in the live ratings, but also below Nigel Short.
