Aronian's resurgence is very heartening to see, though.
A(nother) flop here any many would have been questioning his continued place amongst the "elite", so he was under some pressure.

Can anyone shed any light on Carlsen's woeful performance v. Grischuk? I haven't followed post-match comments or opinion. But judging only from Carlsen's lethargic, even frivolous play, I'd speculate that he really can't be @rsed - or thinks he can wing it from any position. Just asking

A completely uneducated guess is that's what can happen with someone with an incredible will to win when they can't accept it's time to bail out and make a draw. Having scored 4/9 in Norway I assume he's trying desperately to claw back some points on Topalov in the overall standings.David Robertson wrote:Can anyone shed any light on Carlsen's woeful performance v. Carlsen should have drawn against Grischuk, should have won against Nakamura, should be joint leader going into the last round...
(Congrats to Aronian on his great performance here.)

Bit of a shock whenever he doesn't beat Nakamura mind The bishop pair does normally happily pummel a rook, but clearly not so easy this time.
Aronian being back in form is very good news.

Aronian just won the tournament by forcing Topalov to take perpetual check,MartinCarpenter wrote:Bit of a shock whenever he doesn't beat Nakamura mind The bishop pair does normally happily pummel a rook, but clearly not so easy this time.

Despite his toils in the latter rounds he is still likely to finish 2nd or 3rd and get a decent amount of tour points keeping him in contention going into the last event. It will seem strange that he could score more tour points for 5/9 than Nakamura scored with 6/9 in Norway but that's the way it's being calculated.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Carlsen should have drawn against Grischuk, should have won against Nakamura, should be joint leader going into the last round...
