Keith Arkell's game looks like another draw, (move 32 ) although he often wins drawn rook and pawn endings.

Bet Greenfeld and Short would like that time back right now :) Seems to have turned quite terrifying, never mind at a minute a move.
(There goes another piece put calmly en prise on move 16!).

Timman-Daulyte was a rather brutal win for white. The white rook on e3 certainly played its part.

Wild crazy game but Nigel has won! It seems White missed 17 Bd5 and Stockfish at Chess24 recommended 16...Ra3! to prevent that.

Time to start watching David Howell...

He was after 80 Kg6 but I'm not so sure now his king is partially cut off.

Surely it must be a win now (move 102)

No, White can never win the b7 pawn because of stalemate says the computer.

80 Kg6 was the clearest win according to the online engine but it needs to be checked properly offline. Very disappointing for David.
Still at least Nigel is in the joint lead now. Ten players on 4 points.

Good to see Jovanka building on her draw against GM Fridman rated 2649 yesterday by grinding down IM Max Illingworth rated 2517.

Should be, but I couldn't do it recently, wound up taking the Rook with Queen in frustration  First time I've had it. Computer made it look so easy too.
I have now analysed the endgame Shvyager-Illingworth using the Lomonosov tablebase and the results can be seen at:

http://www.chessmail.com/games/shvaygling.htm

I also looked at what John Nunn wrote about the Q versus R ending in his "Secrets of Pawnless Endings". Those that required 20+ moves to win from the start, like this one, he classed as difficult. She almost had it won at one point but then she let it drift away...

Edit: Maybe 18... cxd5 was a gross positional error.
