Is there live coverage of the open anywhere?

Thanks but it doesn't seem to go beyond round 7 for what's left of the open unless it's just my computer.

Or get the same feed on chess24

I think it's your computer, as at the time I copied the link, they had coverage of Nakamura just before starting the second play off game. Clearing the browser cache is sometimes recommended, it's often the function key F5 on browsers.

I can view the open knockout but was more interested in what's left of the open swiss. I suspect that priority goes to the knockout events but there's still plenty of interest in the swiss with So, Caruana, Luke etc amongst the leaders on 5.5/7.

They don't seem to be showing the truncated open Swiss on the live site or chess24. Americans are only interested in the high stakes stuff. Maybe TWIC will eventually get the games.

Yu Yangyi had an edge, but not enough to win. Draw agreed.
Going to a second cycle of (faster) rapids later.
Starting time will probably depend on when the other game ends.

Lenderman played a strange opening in his must-win game but seems to be on top now.
A FEW MINUTES LATER: Lenderman's game is becoming a real comedy of errors according to both Trent's commentary and the online engine. Impossible to predict the result.

LATER: Lenderman collapsed and is out.
So Le Quang Liem gets a rest while Nakamura and Yu Yangyi go to the next two rapid games.

There's $238,000 left to play for in the main event, $191,000 in the rapid spinoff.

Somewhere in Las Vegas the last two rounds of an Open tournament are going on, featuring many of the world's top players and a prize fund of $238,000. You wouldn't know it, because after showing the first seven rounds they've stopped broadcasting the games, presumably to avoid distracting attention away from the rapid stuff.

If, as I believe, the sponsor isn't inclined to do another one I'm not surprised, but it won't be because a short draw was agreed on one board yesterday.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

It does come down to whether they want a world wide audience or just an American one. World standard for an event paired according to a Swiss system is that everyone plays to the end under the same playing conditions and the winner is the player with the most points. It's variable as to whether the title and prize money is shared or whether there's a tie break tournament in addition to the main event.

Christopher Kreuzer wrote:What did Luke say in his interview? (other than the quoted bit of "he did not anticipate the three fold repetition").

(I once drew by repetition in an event with similar rules, where I was the lower-rated player and didn't want to risk playing on after gaining an advantage - we couldn't agree a draw as it was only about move 22, but it was clear my opponent was happy to draw, so I looked for a reasonable repetition and my opponent went along with it).

You may want to read the chess.com report

and of course Nakamura went on to win $100,000
