Euro Club Cup 18-24 October 2015 Skopje Macedonia

Post by Mick Norris » Fri Oct 16, 2015 10:10 am

website

Cheddleton (Howell, Arkell etc), White Rose (Wells, Adair etc) & Blackthorne Russia (A Hunt, A Ledger, R Bates etc) plus 2 Welsh teams

Particularly pleased to see a representative in the Women's event - Midland Monarchs (Ana Srebrnic, Sabrina Chevannes, Dijana Dengler, Maria Mandelidou, Cosima Keen)

Good luck to all

Definitely good luck to all. Tends to be needed! Adair at least vaguely hunting norms I guess.

There's a rather amusing typo on the page of open teams - Mednyi Vasdnik apparently have an average elo of 4761 :)
(Their normal players are quite scary enough, but someone has entered their captain as having an elo of 21312 ;)).

People warned of rating inflation a long time ago

Lawrence, congratulations to you for organising the Midland Monarchs teams and funding it (at least partially) yourself - it might not be appreciated by all the ECF Board but glad you persevered

Thanks Mick, it's going to be a very tough event but I'm happy giving players the opportunity.

That's our strongest line up for a while. Of course I knew that Barbican wasn't playing but I only just realised now that we hadn't actually qualified! Quite unusual/unprecedented for sixth place not to be good enough in practice.

Naturally this would make it a paticularly inapt time to take the qualifying slots from the 4NCL and allocate them to the National Club, but ...

All the best to Lawrence's team too (which does include a Barbican player, at least).

Ooh. That is very tough! 2700s all the way down except on bottom board.

Are SOCAR stronger than last year? Michael Adams all the way down on board 4 (if SOCAR play their full strength).

No 80 point rules in the European, Norm seeker (presumably) Ezra Kirk on 3 for Cheddleton with Keith on 5.

Blackthorne doing OK although they are way behind on the clock on the top 5 boards. I can't see Steve Ledger's game on Chessbomb.

Thanks both - I didn't think that I would be concerned about not being able to see one of Steve's games!
