But if you're not there, how do you know the fire alarms will work?

I don't see that being a problem. There are precedents.

For example, as mentioned up thread, I was off sick at the time of the Big Slick flood.

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St Louis have now announced that the US Championships 2016 will take place in the second half of April, at the same time as Altibox Norway Chess.
