Despite dropping to 2727, Adams is still number 24 in the world (though he has dropped a couple more points with draws at the Bundesliga). Does anyone know what events he is scheduled to play between now and the Olympiad? I presume Biel, but maybe some other events as well?

He has now returned to live in Sussex after living in America for around 2 years I believe, so I'm sure it won't be long before people start to notice him: he's certainly a talent.

I see that he played Board 1 for Sussex against Kent on Saturday and lost to Neil McDonald.

I saw him playing in Kent junior events from 2009 up to about 2012 (he's the same age as my daughter, and that's about the time she gave up playing seriously) and, having seen a few talented 11 year olds in my time, I didn't think he was anything special - maybe 120 or so, aged 10/11. If he is a real 2300+ player now, and the results seem to bear it out, he must have made huge progress in his time abroad.

The graph shows the most recent phase of a similar quantum jump to those our juniors used to make in the 1970s and 1980s but rarely do now. Back in 2012 Brian Tarhon represented England in the world under-12 in Slovenia, scoring a modest 5.5/11 in a tournament where Matthew Wadsworth got 8.5. In the 2013 European U12 in Montenegro he was rated 1927 and scored 5/9.
So his big advance has been made while he was in the US, about 400 Fide points or 50 ECF points in around two years, from nothing special to potentially at least an IM.
