Candidates: predict the last two rounds

Post by JustinHorton » Sat Mar 26, 2016 7:13 am

Forum readers! Predict the outcome of the last eight games.

No prizes, just the temporary esteem of your peers.

Very simple, point for each result correct predicted. Competition closes at kick-off on Sunday (don't forget the clocks go forward).

The pairings:

ROUND THIRTEEN

Caruana v Svidler
Aronian v Karjakin
Topalov v Nakamura
Anand v Giri

ROUND FOURTEEN

Svidler v Anand
Giri v Topalov
Nakamura v Aronian
Karjakin v Caruana
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I'll be cold blooded and go for eight draws, hoping 6/8 will be a winning score.

The only thing that could stop Giri drawing was my predicting that he would do so.

I'll have to think up a tie-break

So somebody out there wants Carlsen-Anand III, evidently ;)

Last time there were only 5 draws in the last 2 rounds despite Vishy winning with a round to spate

London only had 3 draws when it was tight like here

Pressure+nerves=blunders unlikely to lead to 8 draws surely

Depends a bit on whether they end up blundering away draws or doing the same with wins :)

If I had predicted based on what I wanted, it would have been:

ROUND THIRTEEN

0-1 Caruana v Svidler
1-0 Aronian v Karjakin
1/2 Anand v Giri

... resulting in a 5-way tie before the last round!
Quite possible combination of results.
