The online engines went crazy over one particular position from that game.

The position where the online engines flash warning sirens and point out 25...Rxe3:

And the position in that computer analysis line where Black plays a stunning move to win the game. Try and solve this position as a Black to play and win puzzle (though there may be more than one way to win):

The whole game with that piece of computer engine craziness as an annotation:

Navara, David (CZE) - Inarkiev, Ernesto (RUS)
17th European Individual Championship 2016
round 08
0-1

Dubov-Brkic is well worth a look too. The phrase "castling into it" springs to mind.

Wow. When you have a rook, knight and bishop working together like that, who needs a queen?

Dubov, Daniil (RUS) - Brkic, Ante (CRO)
17th European Individual Championship 2016
round 08
1-0

Boards 2 and 3 already agreed draws in about 17 moves, presumably with eye on the qualification places. Saric also took an early draw with Black.
The English GMs presumably need +2 from the last three rounds to qualify.

David's opening looks rather unusual: https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tourn ... 16/10/1/24

3...g5!? was analysed in New In Chess 2/2016.

Brunello has played 3...a5 before so maybe David expected it. He has only used a few minutes so far.
His 9th is new and Black is now having a big think at move 10.

Chess24 have David eighteen minutes ahead on the clock which seems implausible.

EDIT: and that's after spending thirteen minutes of his current move so far!
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."
