Re: 2016 European Club Cup
Allegations of chess corruption in Serbia has had an impact on this competition according to a Chessdom article. Here's an extract and link to full article below:
The former president Kopanja even went as far as to pressurize the European Chess Union into canceling the European Chess Club Cup 2016 in Serbia and moving in to another country. As the files reveal, Kopanja was signing the contracts regarding the Club Cup in the name of the Serbian Chess Federation, but insisted on receiving the payments through the account of Vojvodina Chess Federation, which are without any control.

You know about halfway through that last sentence that it's going to be a good one.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Board order can be changed upto and at the captain's meeting tomorrow night. It's quite common for teams to send in a jumbled board order as it may confuse potential opponents.Mike Truran wrote:Is the Cheddleton board order correct??

Probably as accurate as the Abergavenny board order.Mike Truran wrote:Is the Cheddleton board order correct??
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

And the Number two seeds are called "Alkaloid", which is admirable.
Good luck to the UK teams - great to see Howard Williams in action again.

Indeed, and Iolo Jones also. They could have both played in the World Seniors 65+ had they chosen; it must be over 40 years since I had a tough draw with Iolo Jones at a tournament in Gwbert-on-Sea (Cardiganshire).Kevin Thurlow wrote:And the Number two seeds are called "Alkaloid", which is admirable.

Good luck also to the two Irish club teams, both considerably below their normal strength unfortunately, for a variety of reasons.
BTW Kevin, Alkaloid were one of the top contenders last year also. I guess that may be the name of a sponsoring company?
Anyway I am looking forward to the coverage on chess24 which was pretty good in 2015. Evgeny Miroshnichenko was the main commentator then. I believe play will start tomorrow at 2pm GMT?

Nice to see Steve Dishman and Tim Upton playing for the Luxemburg outfit Gambit Bonnevoie. Amusing that Steve still plays the Trompovsky even now.
