Oh dear, Carlsen underperforming on home soil again. Becoming a bit of a habit now.

Extraordinary day and a remarkable game by Aronian. If he always played like that he could be World Champion.
More that than Carlsen underperforming I think.
I look forward to Svidler's analysis.

The score table makes surprising reading and think how even more unbalanced it would have been if So and Caruana had not missed their chances.

Tomorrow's line-up:

Kramnik (2.5) v Nakamura (3) is the headline act.
MVL (1.5) v Aronian (2.5)
Karjakin (2) v Caruana (2)
Carlsen (1.5) v Giri (2)
Anand (1) v So (2)

The lack of farming activities the day before might have produced a string of draws in Round 5 but Adgestein and Huschenbeth did break the Guiness world record for playing on the biggest ever chess board yesterday. An 80m x 80m land board (the previous record being 5.89 x 5.89) celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in Norway. https://www.nrk.no/trondelag/sette-verd ... 1.13554273

The games are underway and Carlsen goes for 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bf4, against MVL, then goes into the confessional: "I forgot my glasses today, had planned to play the Italian."

Caruana 0 Anand 1 and Nakamura-Karjakin drawn with just Giri-So left with white a pawn up but a draw most likely.
