It is difficult to calculate as he has played a lot of games, but how is Gawain's rating doing? Hope he can win tomorrow and be in contention in the last two rounds and maybe even win! (It is a 9-round tournament).
Reykjavik after this? A lot of chess!

Re: Dubai Open 3 to 11 April 2017
I don't think his rating is moving too much. He lost 8.9 at Sharjah. Coming into today's round he was up 3.2 in Dubai so overall down 5-6 points on his Elo at the moment I guess with, as you say, lots of games to go in Dubai & Reykjavik before the next list comes out.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:It is difficult to calculate as he has played a lot of games, but how is Gawain's rating doing? Update: Gawain won today so we can add more Elo to that 3.2

A win for Gawain against the leader to leave him on 6/7 and temporary outright leader.

Actually, it isn't difficult , you go to 2700.com, type ENG in the white "enter name or country" box towards the top right, and it tells you that his live rating is 2666.8, which is 4.2 points down on his ELO after today's winChristopher Kreuzer wrote:It is difficult to calculate as he has played a lot of games, but how is Gawain's rating doing? You'll also notice that Short has dropped below Sadler, albeit marginally, and there aren't really that many points between Howell as no 2 and Jones as no 5 although David has gained in the Bundesliga this weekend

Vidit and Iturrizaga are also on 6/7.
Seven in the chasing group half a point behind.

Round 7 report and it appears that this event is at the old venue of the Dubai Chess and Culture Club this year and not the Marriot after all. No mention of any prayer break in the report so hopefully that's gone as Paul said earlier.

Gawain drew in round 8 and is likely to be one of four players on 6.5/8 going into the last round.

"Main Prizes will be awarded based on Tie-Break and will not be shared"
Tie Break:
Direct encounter
Buchholz (lowest)
Buchholz (highest + lowest)
Great Number of victories
A win for Gawain would gain either $7,000 or $10,000 (USD).

Re: Dubai Open 3 to 11 April 2017
Just for completeness, Lorin is down 2.9 so hopefully with a win today will finish with a plus performance:
34 IM D`costa Lorin A R 2390 4½ 4½ Jayakumaar S 2229
Sue is down 30 points already so it's damage limitation today:
76 Srimathi R 1810 3 3 WIM Maroroa Sue 2148
A real success story coming out of Dubai is 12 year old Gurveen Kapoor who won again in Round 8 vs an 1863 player from Turkmenistan and is already 48.8 points up going into the last round. No doubt he'll be expecting a move up the Maidenhead B board order when he gets back:
84 Kapoor Gurveen 1666 3 3 FM Piyumantha M Sasith Nipun 2027

Another English success as Gawain ties first in Dubai. The four leaders on 6½ drew on the top two boards but there will be quite a few players on the winning score of 7/9 before the end of the round.

Is it possible to calculate tie-breaks?

Re: Dubai Open 3 to 11 April 2017
Not sure if its possible if the round isn't finished but I'm no expert on this. What I do know is that Gawain was leading on tie breaks at the end of Round 8 so hopefully should be first if they are doing it that way. http://chess-results.com/tnr269348.aspx ... =30&wi=821Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Is it possible to calculate tie-breaks?
